SF6 MAY 22 MAJOR BALANCE UPDATE

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to make a quick blog post detailing some of the changes shown off in the newest Battle Balance Update 2024 trailer

GENERAL SYSTEM CHANGE

Recovery Drive Reversal

  • Every character in the game can now wake up drive reversal. This means that characters that did not have wake up OD reversals will now be able to fight back against throw loops and other kinds of strong pressure (Blanka doll setups, Kimberly can setups, etc.)
  • We also know that drive reversals are now -6 instead of -8. There is also an unconfirmed change that they sped up drive reversals to be 18F instead of 20F.
  • Overall, this is a general buff to defensive play in SF6 as players have to now account for another defensive option when they knock someone down.

RYU

  • Ryu can now special cancel his sMP sLK sHK target combo. In the trailer, they show him canceling it into his Denjin Charge. It also means that he can drive rush from this target combo.
  • Ryu can choose to throw regular fireballs when he has Denjin Charge. This was a confirmed change from the real life Battle Hub testing in Japan.

LUKE

  • Luke can combo into uncharged/charged QCB+LP from sHP. This was a confirmed change from the real life Battle Hub testing in Japan.

KIMBERLY

  • Kimberly can now combo air QCF+PP (Her air strike grab) from QCF+PP. This gives Kimberly a lot of new combo routes both midscreen and in the corner.
  • Kimberly can now super cancel her QCB+KK into Level 2, which lets her punish jumps for 3000+ damage if she has Level 2 stocked. This was a confirmed change from the real life Battle Hub testing in Japan.

CHUN

  • Chun can now combo bHP from fMP xx DR. Currently, Chun is +6 on hit from a fMP xx DR but now she is at least +8 on hit from a fMP xx DR. This allows Chun to combo into bHP xx QCB+P~HK regardless if the opponent is standing or crouching. I wonder if this is only a buff on hit or if Chun also has more advantage on block from fMP xx DR.

MANON

  • Manon can now combo into QCF+PP~K from bHP. This was a confirmed change from the real life Battle Hub testing in Japan.

ZANGIEF

  • Zangief now ground bounces from crHP (PC). This was a confirmed change from the real life Battle Hub testing in Japan. Of note, in the trailer, Zangief is seen whiff punishing Aki’s sHP with crHP (PC). crHP is 12F compared to his 22(24)F fHK so perhaps Gief players will use it after parrying certain moves.

JP

  • JP can super cancel the first hit from QCF+KK(?). In the trailer, they show JP doing a blockstring into QCF+KK but likely, JP can now do combos from QCF+KK xx Level 2.

KEN

  • Ken can now combo Run xx DP from crMK. This also means that Ken can likely combo Run xx Tatsu from crMK (PC). This gives Ken a good damage boost as HP DP does 1400 damage while Run DP does 1700 damage.
  • Ken now juggles the opponent higher after a juggle into DP+KK. The trailer shows Ken comboing into Run DP after a juggled DP+KK. Currently, he can only go into H DP.

CAMMY

  • Cammy can now special cancel her sHP sHK target combo. This gives Cammy a strong corner carry route from this hit confirmable target combo.

DHALSIM

  • Dhalsim can now combo crMP from sHK xx DR. This now gives Dhalsim a very good DR confirm from a far range button.
  • Dhalsim’s SA3/CA range has been increased(?). This allows Dhalsim to combo into SA3/CA from further cancels, which improves his combo consistency.

DEEJAY

  • Deejay’s Level 1 is safer on block. Currently, it’s -24 on block. In the trailer, Kimberly tries punishing it with DR crLP, which hits around Frame 20+.

LILY

  • Lily’s sLK is now at least +10 on PC. Currently, it is only +5 on PC. In the trailer, she combos into her 10F crMK from sLK (PC). This means Lily can likely combo into crHP from sLK (PC)
  • Lily can now combo into QCB+PP from crMK. This means Lily can now do a knockdown into a store with only 2 drive bars from a crMK.

BLANKA

  • Blanka can now combo into QCB+KK from crMK. This gives Blanka a strong combo from crMK with only 2 drive bars. EDIT: It seems Blanka can already combo QCB+KK from crMK against crouching Zangief so I’m actually not sure what change was being shown in Blanka’s section.

JURI

  • Juri can now super cancel her sMP bHP sHP target combo.

MARISA

  • Marisa juggles higher on her fHK fHK target combo. In the trailer, she links into Level 2. This gives Marisa a strong confirm (especially against crouchers) from a hit confirmable target combo.

GUILE

  • Guile can now combo into QCB+PP, F+P from crLP.
  • Guile’s QCB+PP, F+PP now seems to wall splat higher (At least from midscreen). In the trailer, you can see Guile whiffing B+LK to combo into Level 1 from midscreen after QCB+PP, F+PP.

E. HONDA

  • E. Honda can now special cancel his sMP dfHK target combo. This was a confirmed change from the real life Battle Hub testing in Japan.

JAMIE

  • Jamie’s crMP is now +5 on hit and +9 after DR. In the trailer, Jamie combos DR crMP into crHP which is a 9F normal. This was a confirmed change from the real life Battle Hub testing in Japan.
  • Jamie can now combo fHK bHK~P target combo on normal hit. This was a confirmed change from the real life Battle Hub testing in Japan.

ED

  • Ed’s crLP is safer on block. Currently, it is -5 on block. In the trailer, Cammy tries punishing crLP with her 5F sLK but fails to punish it.

A.K.I.

  • A.K.I.’s QCF+LP now crumples on PC.

RASHID

  • Rashid can now super cancel his Run, F+K move. This gives Rashid a much more damaging punish vs fireballs now.
